Ah, the official start of summer!
Only this year's weekend away wasn't one of our best trips. Poor Anabella developed a fever out of nowhere Saturday morning, and I ended up having to drop Chip and Daniel at Busch Gardens and take her to Urgent Care where she was prescribed an antibiotic for strep.
Here's some pictures of the fun MaMa, Dan and Daddy had at BG on Saturday:
Love this picture! Look at that smile! While you never want a child to be sick, it was nice that Daniel had some special time at BG with MaMa and Daddy. They rode the Roman Rapids and log flume, which are two rides that wouldn't much interest Anabella. |
| Anabella was so funny when she saw this picture. Her comment was, "Why is Dan in the purple dragon? He never gets in the purple one." I explained that it was probably the only color available since they were busy that day. She knows her brother well. |
| Daniel won this stuffed animal while playing a Price is Right drop the plinko chip type game. The sweet thing is that he went back and did it a second time to win one for his sick sister back home. She was so tickled! |
While Anabella wasn't anywhere near 100% the next day, against my better mommy judgment, we decided to give Virginia Beach a shot anyway. She'd had three doses of antibiotic by the time we left around 11:30am, so we were hopeful. And, of course, she really wanted to go.
It started out good.....
| This is one of those "treasure forever" pictures. |
| Daniel had so much fun. He was very busy building this dam to keep the water out. Said he was "working", and working he was! He was so dedicated to this project. Played and played. Excuse me "worked and worked." |
| Ice cream, anyone? |
Nobody even mentioned getting in the ocean. It was SO cold. It was actually a little chilly on the beach with the wind. 72 degrees with wind on May 23rd and as you can imagine, there was hardly a soul in the water!
| Anabella had fun until she tried to eat her roast beef sandwich, which she loves, for lunch. Her throat hurt, she said. Bless her heart, she never did do much after that besides hunker down under some towels (said she was cold). She'd had ibuprofen (which is supposed to last 8 hours, but only lasts 6 on my kids EVER) just before we left, so she didn't have a fever. Just still not herself. Needless to say, we didn't stay long that day. She slept on the way back and then again when we arrived at the Credles. When she woke up from her nap, she seemed a little better, but still didn't eat anything that evening for dinner. And if Anabella can't eat steak, she's sick. |
| Daniel's been really into wanting to practice baseball lately, so Daddy brought along his bat and tee. |
| Cute boy! |
| She might have been sick, but she looked cute too sporting her patriotic attire. |
| They got animal crackers from the neighbor Mrs. Judy. |
Because Anabella didn't eat again, and because we know we always sleep better in our own bed, we decided to head home that evening rather than stay another night and try to do Water Country the next day.
I think it was the right decision. She was asleep by 8pm in the car, fell immediately back to sleep upon getting in bed and slept until 8:30am Monday morning. Considering they were up at 6:30am at the Credles that Sunday morning, I'd say we definitely did the right thing. Antibiotics help, but sleep is essential.
Happy Memorial Day! She woke up Monday saying she was 100%. :) |
| Of course, we had to go to the pool! |
| Quite a few people there, but the water was COLD. Our neighbors came for a while, but left after an hour or so because the kids said it was too cold. We stayed about 2.5 hours. Ordered pizza for lunch. |
| Dan couldn't wait to wear his new Captain America goggles! |
| He floated around on his "surf board," made some friends, and picked pretty much up on his swimming skills from last year. He didn't jump in much, but he didn't wear his puddle jumper, and he dove for his dive toys just like last year. Just needs to work on his swim. He's got the going under part. |
| Enjoying a popsickle. |
That evening our neighbors came over and we grilled burgers and dogs. It was a nice day. Anabella was mostly back to herself, though the antibiotic messed with her bowels. I won't let them prescribe Omnicef anymore, that's for sure. Live and learn. For years I carried a thermometer and ibuprofen for the kids on trips "just in case." Never needed it. Then, you stop packing it, and need it. I'm going back to packing it again.
